DINING ROOM HOST
About the Job:
Hosts set the tone for our guest's dining experience. Whether it is taking a dinner reservation over the phone or greeting guests in person, first impressions count.
Hosts are responsible for knowing which tables are available to guests, which server should be seated with guests next, and how to handle a wide variety of guest situations and answer all kinds of questions. Finally, it is seating guests comfortably and introducing them to their servers. Hosting is a demanding job, requiring excellent people skills, quick thinking, and working as part of a team. It is a physical job as well, requiring several miles of walking each shift!
Hosts wear uniforms provided by the company. Employees must provide their own black leather, closed-toe, non-skid shoes, black socks and black belt.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports directly to Dining Room Manager and/or Food & Beverage Manager on duty.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide excellent guest service in an efficient manner.
- Accept reservations and implement the designated reservation system.
- Prepare and utilize seating charts.
- Direct the seating rotation within the Dining Room.
- Complete table checks as needed.
- Ensure a congenial Dining Room atmosphere.
- Complete side duties within each shift.
- Be knowledgeable of all menus, special services procedures and general guest information.
- Maintain cleanliness of Dining Room and service areas.
- Maintain appearance and uniform standards.
- Handle all guest service issues in an immediate and professional manner.
- Develop and maintain positive communication and teamwork with all co-workers and supervisors: front and back of the house.
- Follow Company and departmental environmental practices to minimize wasted energy and resources.
- Follow Company and departmental safety practices to minimize risk to self and others.
- Follow Company and departmental policies and procedures. Hold crew members accountable for the same.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Occasional lifting and balancing of Dining Room service trays.
- Ability to organize and prioritize under pressure.
- Ability to effectively communicate with guests, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Ability to absorb information quickly: Menus, reservation systems, Dining Room floor plan, point-of-sale operation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, approximately 8 hours.
- Must be able to walk for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds.
- Bending and kneeling, stretching and reaching for extended periods of time.
- Working with required chemicals.
AUTHORITIES:
To respond immediately and professionally to guest service issues and report
the situation to the Dining Room Manager on duty.
