About the Job...
Retail Distribution Center is the hub of retail activity in the park! Distribution Center Help takes in merchandise from our vendors, stocks our warehouse shelves, fills orders for inventory items, then gets them on our trucks for delivery to gift shops in the park!
Based in Gardiner, Montana, the northern gateway to Yellowstone, our DC staff live in very small efficiency apartments that offer a bathroom, kitchen, and one to two roommates. Town is two minutes on foot and Yellowstone is out the front door!
DC Help wear their own clothing to work including blue jeans or shorts. Employees should bring work clothing that can get dirty and possibly stained, but is not torn or unkept. Close-toed shoes are required for anyone working in the warehouse.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to the Lead, Assistant Manager, and/or Retail Distribution Center Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with receiving and distribution of goods to and from the distribution center, including the loading and unloading of shipments from different carriers.
- Accurately and efficiently receive, price, package and distribute merchandise received in the distribution center; keeping paperwork legible.
- Maintain a neat and orderly warehouse.
- Practice safe work habits in an industrial type of work environment by complying with all safety requirements. Notify a supervisor immediately if an unsafe work condition or practice is observed. Successfully complete all required safety training.
- Assist with bi-annual inventories and any gift shop openings or closings.
- Comply with Yellowstone’s Environmental Management Systems (Ecologix) and look for ways to improve the impact your job has on the environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Must acquire a general knowledge of receiving, transferring and distribution procedures pertaining to Retail Department inventory control; able to read and understand vendor packing slips, issue documents and inventory computer print-outs.
- Accurately maintains inventory accounting records; consistently follows correct pricing and distribution directions.
- Able to correctly and safely use a variety of distribution center tools and equipment items; ticketing and marking tools, knives, carts, hand trucks, ladders, unloading ramps, brooms and calculators.
- Able to accept direction and work cooperatively with co-workers.
- Works with a minimum amount of supervision; excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Demonstrates an awareness for the overall neatness and orderly system of storing merchandise in the distribution center; able to locate product and "pull orders" for distribution to gift shop locations.
- Experience with two wheeled hand trucks, pallet jacks, electric pallet lifts, and fork lifts helpful.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to stand/walk on a concrete surface for a minimum eight-hour shift.
- Able to lift and move goods weighing 50 pounds, and up to 100 pounds or more with assistance.
- Must be able to frequently bend down or kneel to stock product during a shift.
- Must be able to frequently move up and down ladders to put away and pull stock during a shift.
