Distribution Manager

MANAGER, DISTRIBUTION

About the Job...

The Manager of Distribution trains and supervises all employees for shipping, bin washing, sorter/folding crew, receiver, and truck driving operations. Responsible for the inventory and sanitizing of all Laundry Bins.  Efficient and accurate completion of all shipping orders, while maintaining quality standards.  Parkwide distribution, trucks loaded accurately maintaining load balance, safety checks, and cleanliness inside and out.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Manager, Training and Standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Trains and supervises all employees for custodial, shipping, and truck driving operations. The Distribution Manager ensures safe truck operation, accurate counts, and delivery of quality linens to locations.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate custodians, shipping clerks, and truck drivers in safety, production and quality standards, and specific aspects of their jobs.
  • Provide continuous verbal performance feedback.
  • Provide written feedback using HIGs according to laundry policy.
  • Provide coaching to employees as needed for performance improvement. Perform documentation of coaching and disciplinary action in accordance with company policy.
  • Prepare work schedules for custodians, shipping clerks, and truck drivers. Manage labor within budgeted limits.
  • Supervise shipping to ensure accurate counts and quality linens delivered to all locations. Ensure items from the uniform room and laundry services are loaded onto appropriate trucks for delivery. Supervise the loading of trucks and the safety and securing of all loads.
  • Supervise drivers to ensure compliance with DOT regulations regarding vehicle inspection and safety and driving time limits. Ensure that all logs and forms are completed according to company policy.
  • Communicate equipment and building status promptly to the Operations Manager, Fleet Maintenance Manager, and Laundry Maintenance Manager according to laundry policy.
  • Enter actual shipped linen quantities into the computerized laundry inventory management system and send email shipment notifications.
  • Perform a nightly inventory of all linens in the laundry and enter the data into the computerized laundry inventory management system.
  • Coordinate with the Production Manager to ensure quantity and quality of linens, and appropriate stacking of linen items in bins or storage areas.
  • Ensure the shipping area, sorter, and back area of the finish floor, folding table, and trucks are kept clean and organized.
  • Enforce company policies including those regarding safety, job performance, and respect in the workplace.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

 

  • Ability to learn quickly and follow instructions accurately.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to motivate employees and resolve conflict.
  • Communication skills, including providing effective job training and direction, providing timely and helpful employee feedback, and clear, concise, and professional written communication.
  • Organizational skills, including scheduling, anticipating the needs of customers, and contingency planning.
  • Competency in basic arithmetic and the ability to count inventories, compare actual vs. required amounts, etc.
  • General knowledge of finish floor operations is helpful.
  • Must be flexible, able to prioritize workload, and take the initiative.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software, including:
  • navigating local and network file systems,
  • locating and creating network shortcuts,
  • locating and saving files in designated locations with standardized file names,
  • using Outlook to manage multiple e-mail accounts,
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, and company and laundry policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL REQIREMENTS:

 

  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching outward and above the shoulder for up to 6 hours per shift.
  • Requires occasional climbing using a step stool.
  • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 55 pounds frequently.
  • Must be able to work in an environment of 89? to 100? up to 7 hours per shift.

AUTHORITIES:

Employee disciplinary action, including Discussion Records and Written Actions.
Provide job performance feedback to custodians, shipping clerks, and truck drivers.
Write work schedules for custodians, shipping clerks, and truck drivers.
Respond immediately to any unsafe situation.
