About the Job...

The Production Manager trains and supervises employees for wash deck, Tunnel, and Finish Floor operations. Responsible for ensuring linens are processed in an efficient manner meeting production and quality standards.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  Reports to the Manager, Laundry Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • The Production Manager trains and supervises employees for wash deck, tunnel washer, and finish floor operations, and ensures linens are processed in an efficient manner meeting production and quality standards.
  • Anticipate the needs of the finish floor and maintain a balanced flow of each type of material so that finish floor employees are continuously occupied.
  • Communicate with Maintenance Manager, Distribution Manager, Manager of Training & Standards, Laundry Operations Manager and subordinates.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate wash deck & tunnel operators, bin washers, sorter/folders, and finish floor employees in safety, production and quality standards, washer operation, chemical handling, loading patterns, and feeding and catching on all finish floor equipment.
  • Provide continuous verbal performance feedback.
  • Provide written feedback using HIGs according to laundry policy.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate the Wash Deck Lead.

  • Provide coaching to employees as needed for performance improvement. Perform documentation of coaching and disciplinary action in accordance with company policy.
  • Prepare or ensure preparation of work schedules for wash deck, sorter/folders, bin washer, and finish floor employees. Manage labor within budgeted limits.
  • Supervise production to ensure that employees meet production standards and that quality linens are available to ship when needed.
  • Communicate equipment status promptly to the Operations Manager and Maintenance Manager according to laundry policy.
  • Provide inventories of expendable supplies to the Office Assistant according to laundry policy.
  • Monitor chemical inventory for the small wash deck and tunnel. Supervise chemical container change out to ensure safety.
  • Coordinate with the Laundry Coordinator to monitor linen counts in the laundry and on locations to keep an overall knowledge of operations.
  • Maintain a safe work area according to laundry policy.
  • Ensure all laundry areas are kept clean and organized.
  • Enforce company policies including those regarding safety, job performance, and respect in the workplace.
  • Complete vehicle mileage logs as required by company policy.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: 

  • Communication skills, including providing effective job training and direction, providing timely and helpful employee feedback, and clear, concise, and professional written communication.
  • Organizational skills, including scheduling, anticipating the needs of customers, and contingency planning.
  • Competency in basic arithmetic and the ability to count inventories, compare actual vs. required amounts, etc.
  • Must be flexible, able to prioritize workload, and take the initiative.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to motivate employees and resolve conflict.
  • Basic mechanical skills, including the ability to remain safe near hot and rotating equipment and to start and stop equipment according to laundry procedure.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software, including:
  • navigating local and network file systems,
  • locating and creating network shortcuts,
  • locating and saving files in designated locations with standardized file names,
  • using Outlook to manage multiple e-mail accounts,
  • using Word to create memoranda and manuals,
  • using Excel to record tabular data.
  • In-depth knowledge of wash deck chemicals helpful.
  • Knowledge of Hazard Communication, safe work practices, and laundry and company policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to lift 70 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching outward and above the shoulder for up to 6 hours per shift.
  • Repetitive motion of arms, wrist, and hands for up to 7 hours per shift.
  • Requires occasional climbing, crawling, and squatting/kneeling up to 3 hours per shift.
  • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 55 pounds frequently.
  • Must be able to push or pull wheeled items weighing up to 400 pounds frequently.
  • Must be able to wear hearing protection up to 5 hours per day.
  • Must be able to work in an environment of 89° to 100° up to 7 hours per day.

Employee disciplinary action, including Discussion Records and Written Actions.
Provide job performance feedback to finish floor crew, sorters/folders, wash deck & tunnel operators, bin washers, and the Wash Deck Lead.

Respond immediately to any unsafe situation.
