A little Geology... The Yellowstone River flows into the 10,000 year-old canyon by way of two grand waterfalls. Many trails take you around the canyon. Overlooks provide breathtaking views of the falls.

The original Canyon Hotel was built in 1911. Made of logs, in traditional "Park-A-Tecture" style, the hotel was a favorite of visitors. Sadly, the hotel burned to the ground in mid 1950s.

Today Canyon Lodge is a large retro-styled structure that houses a gift shop, lounge and dining facilities. Accommodations for guests are in in cabins and two newer lodges, located nearby.

Around Canyon Village

Canyon Village is surrounded by a varied landscape! Employees find trailheads that lead to mountain overlooks, meadows that are home to moose, bison and elk, hidden lakes and cool, green forests.

The Canyon Rim Trail is famous for its amazing views along the rim and Uncle Tom's Trail heads to the bottom of the canyon and the foot of Lower Falls, where rainbows rise in the mist of the crashing Yellowstone River.

Nearby, a quieter portion of the Yellowstone River meanders through Hayden Valley and attracts bison and waterbirds. Stretches of the Yellowstone are considered some of the best fly-fishing in the world.

Canyon Village is unique in it's landscape and energetic staff.
