Location Controller

About the Job

The Location Controller is expected to manage the location accounting operation, ensuring accurate reporting of sales revenue, security of location monetary assets, and the supervision of location accounting personnel.

The uniform standard for this position is business casual. No jeans or shorts while on duty. The company does not provide uniform clothing for this position.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports directly to the: Manager, Field Accounting; and the Assistant Manager, Field Accounting. There is an indirect reporting relationship to the Location Manager with regard to operational issues. The Location Controller will also work closely with Xanterra's General Accounting Office (GAO) staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide accurate and timely summaries of daily sales from entire location to be sent to Xanterra
  • General Accounting Office (GAO).
  • Management of the location accounting staff ranging from 1 to 11 employees.
  • Scheduling, training, evaluating job performance, coaching, and providing guidance and motivation
  • for the accounting staff.
  • Maintain accuracy and security of the house bank as well as the management of the cash flow.
  • Maintain security of corporate assets as well as control of all numbered documents on location.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all Xanterra accounting policy and procedures by all location departments performing accounting duties.
  • Provide training and assistance for other department's staff with money handling as needed.
  • Provide information to all departments of the location concerning payroll and accounting policy.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports to location departments as required by GAO.
  • Receive, distribute and cash payroll checks for location employees..
  • Communicate with the GAO as well as other department managers, providing assistance as needed.
  • Confirm hourly employees in the Kronos Timekeeping system and report weekly payroll, adhering to the budget provided by the Manager, Field Accounting.
  • Maintain certain office supplies for location, while staying within the budget.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance in order to provide the best guest and employee service.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information obtained in the accounting office.
  • Know the correct procedures for fire alarms and other emergency situations at the location. Must
  • ensure that staff is trained in this area as well.
  • Perform duties outside the job classification, as assigned by management.
  • Train/Manage/Perform the functions of Night Auditor, Senior Audit Clerk, and Audit Clerk as necessary, based on staffing levels.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Accounting degree and/or related work experience.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Motivational, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Office machine skills, especially PC experience.
  • Knowledge of the following PC software: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, IBM Client Access.
  • Knowledge of the following AS/400 software: LMS, and Kronos Timekeeping,
  • General cash handling experience preferred.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The majority of work is performed while sitting at a desk. However, physical stamina and conditioning is required to withstand extensive walking, lifting, and transporting of supplies and equipment. This function may include loading company vehicles, moving supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to and from work stations on location (up to 100 yards).

AUTHORITIES:

To communicate to the Manager, Field Accounting and Location Manager any problems that concern the accounting department on location, making suggestions for improvements;
To provide bank audit, over/short, and observational reports as necessary to departmental and location managers responsible for disciplinary actions;
To suggest procedural changes in accounting reports to the Manager, Field Accounting and implement them if applicable; To promote or reassign employees to positions better suited them (to include termination of direct staff if necessary).
