About the Job...
The Operator of Scenic Cruise conducts our scenic tour boats onto Yellowstone Lake for an interpretive and entertaining cruise over one of the largest high-altitude lakes in North America.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Position reports directly to the Marina Manager or Assistant Marina Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts scheduled cruises in a safe and lawful manner in accordance with company policy.
- Responsible for the safety of passengers and crew.
- Provides commentary covering Yellowstone’s natural and human history and geography.
- Answers visitors' questions concerning Yellowstone National Park.
- Regulates passenger loads, acts as host, maintains order aboard vessel.
- Supervises ticket collection, narration, docking, cleaning.
- Instruct guests in safety and life saving emergency procedures, and basic boating safety.
- Maintains cleanliness of boat and reports malfunctions to management.
- Maintains radio contact with shore stations at all stages of operation.
- Fuels the boat and secures it when it is to remain unattended.
- Completes required paperwork.
- Provides appropriate clothing for working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Assists in all other marina operations as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Seamanship; must pass written and practical examinations.
- Knowledge of park geography and history with a focus on Lake area.
- Public speaking skills.
- Knowledge of NPS boating and fishing regulations.
- Supervision skills - Passengers and Crew.
- Knowledge of maintenance and operation of assigned equipment.
- Knowledge of weather patterns.
- Knowledge of safety, emergency and life-saving procedures and current CPR and first aid certification.
- Must possess valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must provide proof of Medical Examination stating fitness for holding a commercial boat operators position.
- Must be capable of lifting objects of up to 50 pounds.
- Must be capable of bending, lifting and standing throughout a 10-hour shift.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work at elevations in excess of 7700 feet.
- Must pass pre-employment and random drug screens.
AUTHORITIES:
- Makes decisions regarding operation of the vessel under way.
- Regulates activities of passengers according to Company rules to maintain safety and comfort.
