About the Job...

Retail Sales Associates work in our gift shops greeting guests, answering questions about a wide variety of merchandise and ensuring that all guests go home with memories of their trip to Yellowstone....not souvenirs. Associates stock shelves, clean the store and assist in unloading delivery trucks. Although cash-handling experience is a must, this is not a cashier's job. Retail Sales Associates are guest service associates...who know how to operate a point- of-sale cash register system.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to the Gift Shop Manager, Assistant Manager or Lead on duty.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handle the sale of purchases in the gift shop.
  • Perform cashiering duties properly, recording sales in the register accurately.
  • and following correct accounting procedures.
  • Assist whenever necessary in keeping the sales floor clean and merchandise well stocked.
  • This includes sweeping, vacuuming, polishing, scrubbing, mopping and trash removal.
  • Maintain teamwork and good communication with Gift Shop Managers and co-workers.
  • Assist the Gift Shop Manager with inventory control, ordering, receiving and merchandise display.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Able to operate computer cash register and handle cash accurately.
  • Able to maintain proper sales records, including correct night reports.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of Gift Shop procedures by successfully completing the Gift Shop Training Program.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and courteous behavior in a high traffic seasonal retail operation.
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of product information when used as part of a professional sales approach.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Report to work on time, in proper uniform and ready to work.
  • Show an awareness of inventory control through effective management of assigned merchandise sections, with attention to theft prevention.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand on feet for at least eight (8) hours per day.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel and all other physical movements needed to clean work areas from ceiling to floor.
