About the Job...
The Seamstress keeps it all together, with alterations and clothing repairs that ensure Yellowstone staff look good in their uniforms! Other duties include issuing and receiving uniforms.
The Seamstress wears a uniform provided by the company. Employees may choose to wear clean, untorn, unpatched, unadorned blue jeans in a traditional fit (no loose pants). Employees must provide leather, close-toed shoes.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports directly to the Uniform Inventory Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Seamstress/Uniform Clerk makes repairs and minor alterations on uniforms and clothing, and receives and issues uniforms.
- Provide excellent service to uniform room customers.
- Greet employees at the uniform room counter and provide them with uniforms required for their positions quickly, efficiently, accurately, and professionally.
- Greet managers at the uniform room counter and assist them with their laundry service items quickly, efficiently, accurately, and professionally.
- Manage incoming telephone calls, passing messages and taking action as appropriate.
- Complete required uniform tracking forms promptly and accurately according to laundry procedures. Enter uniform issue data into a computerized database according to laundry procedures.
- Repair damaged clothing and uniforms, including hand and machine sewing, replacement of buttons and zippers, and other repairs as needed.
- Perform minor alterations, including hemming pants and sleeves.
- Operate sewing machines and hand irons.
- Meet or exceed production and quality standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area according to laundry policy.
- Assist with uniform inventories as directed.
- Assist when needed in laundry operations.
- Assist with special projects as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Sewing and clothing repair skills, including the use of industrial sewing machines, hemming sleeves and pants, minor repairs, installing zippers, etc.
- Ability to learn quickly and follow instructions accurately.
- Business communication skills, including professional telephone manner and clear, concise, and professional written communication.
- Organizational skills including the ability to work with items in queue, managing sewing supplies, and prioritizing and scheduling tasks.
- Mechanical ability, including the ability to operate and make routine adjustments to a sewing machine and associated equipment.
- Competency in basic arithmetic and the ability to count inventories, compare actual vs. required amounts, etc.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software, including:
- navigating local and network file systems,
- locating and creating network shortcuts,
- locating and saving files in designated locations with standardized file names,
- using Outlook to read and send email,
- entering data into an Access database,
- using Excel to record tabular data.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching outward and above the shoulder for up to 6 hours per shift.
- Repetitive motion of arms, wrist, and hands for up to 7 hours per shift.
- Requires occasional climbing, crawling, and squatting/kneeling up to 3 hours per shift.
- Must be able to lift items weighing up to 35 pounds frequently.
- Able to sit at a sewing machine for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Must be able to work in an environment of 89° to 100° up to 7 hours per shift.
