Your Work Week

  • We typically work 32 to 48 hours per week, and the number of hours vary based on staffing needs and business levels.    We are not able to guarantee hours.
  • We work different shifts during the week.   Scheduled shifts include morning, evening or, in some cases, split-shifts.  There are a few overnight shifts available for you night-owls!

Uniforms and Appearance

  • Most positions require wearing a uniform, and we will provide all the required pieces.  Most often, we will ask you to bring the proper shoes and belt to go with them.   A few jobs have a “business casual” dress code.   More information about what you need to bring with you to wear while on duty will be provided during the hiring process.
  • How you look is part of the impression we give our guests, and we have appearance standards that trend much like the rest of the hospitality industry.  Those standards include:
  • Neat, well groomed hair.
  • No extreme tattoos visible in guest-contact situations.
  • No body piercings in any visible body part while on duty, with the exception of earrings in the ear lobe.
  • One or two earrings in each earlobe while on duty, depending on your department.  Clean and wrinkle-free uniform each worn for each duty shift.

  • More information about the appearance standards for your job position will be provided during the hiring process.

Drug-Free Workplace and Alcohol Policy

A productive, safe work environment leaves no room for alcohol at work or the use of illegal drugs at any time.  Employees are subject to pre-employment, random, periodic and/or reasonable cause alcohol and drug testing.   Monthly random drug tests throughout the park are a fact of life.

Our jobs and homes are on federal land, and any offense of the “zero-tolerance” drug policy will be handled under federal jurisdiction.  Convictions are felonies, and jail-time served (and it is served…) is without early-release or parole.   Don’t do it here.

Underage drinking, including ANYONE under 21 years old, is NEVER tolerated.   If you are under age 21 and found with alcohol, you will face legal and company action.   If you are over 21 and provide alcohol to an underage individual, you will face the same consequences.  Don’t do that here either.

Positive Letter of Recommendation is required

  • Before you begin employment with us, we have to have one!
  • Your letter must be from a former employer that you worked with for at least three months.  That job must have been held in the last seven years.
  • If you haven’t had any job in the last seven years, you may provide a Personal Letter of Recommendation.
  • The only exceptions for submitting a letter are former employees who have worked for Xanterra Parks & Resorts® in Yellowstone within the last seven years.
  • If you worked for us more than seven years ago, you must submit a new Letter of Recommendation.
  • Coming to Yellowstone without a letter of reference, means we CANNOT hire you that day.  Please consider this before you travel all the way to the park, because we are not able to offer non-employees housing or meals.

Background Checks

The comfort and safety of our staff and guests is a priority!  A background check is a condition of your employment and will be done on every employee.   Individuals with outstanding wants, warrants and some felony convictions will not be employed.  Be sure to answer the felony question on your employment application.  We cannot process your application without an answer.

Your Paycheck!

Starting wage for most   entry level positions is $7.40 per hour.

The cost of your "board," or meal plan, is deducted from your paycheck every two weeks. In 2010, the bi-weekly deduction is no more than $142.00*, or about $10.00 per day.

The room portion of the bi-weekly deduction is no more than $30,  for a total maximum Room and Board deduction of $172.00 every two weeks. The Room and Board deduction is based on actual hours worked each pay period, with the maximum deduction occuring when you work 56 hours or more in a two-week period.

Room & Board includes your room, utilities, wireless Internet service, uniforms, laundry facilities and three meals per day, plus snacks and beverages.  There is no option to pay less for any provision that you don’t use.

For employees who have arranged with their hiring department to bring their own Recreational Vehicle to live in, there will be a site rental deduction from each paycheck.

Site rental varies from $100.00 to $120.00 per pay period (two weeks).  Most sites require separate billing for utilities and exact deductions will be provided in your employment agreement packet.   Laundry facilities will be available in your village.  Meals are not provided.
