Artists in Yellowstone...
Artists are drawn to Yellowstone. Color palettes change constantly to record never-ending sources of composition and light. Every turn presents another scene to paint. Every hour offers another light value to record...in any medium!

If you love to work "plein air", Yellowstone is for you! Many overlooks and turnouts offer great views and compositions for painting or drawing.

Artists should bring...
a supply of materials, as the closest location for art supplies is at least two hours away. Some art-lovers have a favorite website to buy from, which makes getting supplies a little easier.

Whether you paint in oils, or draw in pencil...
be sure to follow safety cautions while in the wild! Do not set up near bison, elk or other wildlife...they may move toward you and become agitated by your presence and possibly injure you severely! And...don't hike alone! While it is wonderful to ponder your surroundings and render them in solitude, being alone makes you more vulnerable to wildlife confrontations.

Yellowstone National Park is a photographer's paradise!...
Images are everywhere and light is constantly changing. Each day offers a different moment for the lens to capture.

Whether you are a serious photographer or taking pictures to show your friends and family back home, be prepared for non-stop snapping! Each area of Yellowstone has natural and wildlife features that attract millions of visitors each year. Imagine how amazing it is to live here and have the opportunity to collect images each day!

After shooting those award-winning images....
Have your film or digital images developed at the larger general stores in the park. Digital images are normally processed at Old Faithful, Grant Village, Canyon Village, Lake and Mammoth Hot Springs. Film processing is done at Old Faithful, Canyon Village and Lake Area. Film and some digital memory cards are available at each location, along with many types of batteries for your camera.

Watch for special van trips organized by the Co-op Recreation Program, as well as the Annual Employee Photo Contest. Go to the Rec. Program website to find out more!

These are great opportunities to get around the park and see scenery and wildlife you might miss on your own! Watch the posted schedules at your location.

Other opportunities include park wide educational programs offered by Xanterra, Yellowstone Association, and National Park Service. Some of these programs include van tours. Others include guided tours on foot that take employees and guests to areas of interest.

One summer in Yellowstone can help produce a body of work you can be proud of. You can take home artwork and photos that convey the amazing time you spend in the park. These will be true illustrations of the chapters you write for your personal Adventure in Yellowstone!
