Assistant HR Manager-Old Faithful Area
Assistant HR Manager
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports directly to the HR Manager, Old Faithful Area. In the absence of the HR Manager, Old Faithful Area, this position reports to the Regional Operations Manager and/or the Assistant Director, Parkwide HR.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position has authority and responsibility to assist with managing all phases of Human Resources operation in the Old Faithful Area.
- This position will be provided Category I housing in the Old Faithful area in order to fulfill the primary responsibilities enumerated below.
- Effectively advise and lead seasonal property management teams on all aspects of Human Resource policy and practice through excellent interpersonal communication, teambuilding, continual development and positive coaching.
- Serve as a backup Housing Manager for the Old Faithful Area as necessary.
- Ensure adherence to established company policy & procedure, State and Federal Law, and National Park Service standards in all aspects of Human Resources.
- Serve as a primary resource for investigation in highly sensitive areas including claims of harassment , discrimination, threats of violence, etc.
- Responsible for the continuous monitoring, training on and reporting of adherence to company policy and procedure and adherence to employee documentation and discipline standards.
- Actively train department and operations managers on company standards and practices related to the selection, training and managing of employees at all Old Faithful Area properties.
- Continually seek improvement of efficiencies in processes and procedures throughout all operations with the goal of consistently improving standards of employee guest service while maintaining and/or reducing overall company liabilities and HR operating expenses.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of employee information including profile changes, payroll deductions, etc.
- Utilize personnel reports and offer assistance to location departments as needed to accurately assess staffing issues (i.e., to compare actual staff numbers to budgeted staff numbers, to monitor room and board charges, to monitor staffing activities including, arrivals, transfers, promotions, terminations, etc.) and communicate concerns to appropriate location, support and HR Management staff.
- Perform weekly employee file audits and initiate steps (retraining, corrective action, etc.) to ensure appropriate file maintenance.
- Assist with seasonal Personnel staff hiring when vacancies occur during the season.
- As appropriate, serve as resource for Human Resources and departmental support staffs the season in the Old Faithful area.
- Work closely with the HR support office on all matters relating to Employee Relations within the Old Faithful Area.
- Provide a sounding board for employees at all levels; handle personnel issues with sensitivity and confidentiality as required, resolve issues in a tactful and timely manner.
- Continuously work to develop and strengthen relationships with local management and NPS personnel at all locations while ensuring compliance with company and contract related directives.
- Other duties as assigned by the Old Faithful Area HR Manager, Regional Operations Manager or Assistant Director, Parkwide HR.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- HR Certification preferred
- Minimum of three years Xanterra Yellowstone Management and/or HR experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Motivational, organizational, and time management skills
- Knowledge of Company policies and procedures
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Possession of valid drivers license and safe driving history required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to walk through location housing facilities, including climbing stairs, on a daily basis.
- Ability to walk from Personnel office to offices of other location department managers on a daily basis.
- Occasional cleaning duties: pushing/pulling vacuum, bending, kneeling, stretching and moving of furniture.
- Ability to lift or move items up to 50 lbs.
