About the Job...

The Bus Driver-Interpretive Guides drive the bus and host excursions for Yellowstone guests; safely navigating Yellowstone roads while offering interpretive information to participants. This position requires the ability to operate a manual-shift, commercial passenger tour bus on various road conditions while providing knowledgeable, interpretive commentary of Park features and history. Our Guides must enjoy spending time with multiple guests in conditions that require excellent teaching, communication and guest service skills.
Uniform for this position is provided by the company. Employee must provide dark socks, close-toed leather "all weather" shoes, and dark belt.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports directly to the location Dispatcher and/or the Assistant Manager or Manager of Transportation Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safe and proper operation of company equipment in all weather conditions.
  • Up to 10 hours driving (15 hours total work) on various types of road conditions.
  • Maintaining professionalism while working outdoors in extreme weather conditions and during vehicle breakdowns.
  • Loading and unloading of luggage.
  • Providing courteous guest service.
  • Providing a knowledgeable, interpretive commentary of Park features and history.
  • Leading guided walks of up to a mile or longer in length.
  • Keeping tours on a time schedule. Must be punctual.
  • Prompt and correct completion of all required reports.
  • Representing the Company in a positive manner.
  • Responsible for a clean and neat appearance in the prescribed uniform.
  • Assisting as needed with duty as Step-On Guide, driving of Step-On Tour Guides, bus washing, assisting with guest services in other departments, and other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • At least 21 years of age and be capable of obtaining a Class B, Type 1, Commercial
  • Driver's License with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements.
  • Good driving record.
  • Communicate effectively through speech and hearing.
  • Good reading and comprehension skills to research tour information.
  • Able to organize information about Yellowstone National Park into an interpretive thematic tour.
  • Judgement and leadership to keep your tour on a semblance of a schedule.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must meet all DOT physical requirements and pass a DOT physical exam.
  • Able to walk up to one mile several times each day at elevations ranging from 5,300 feet to 10,000 feet above sea level.
  • Simultaneously steer a vehicle, shift its transmission, operate clutch, accelerator,and brake pedals, and give commentary while
  • driving in heavy traffic.
  • Able to bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs. simultaneously and repeatedly.
  • Withstand up to 10 hours of consecutive driving on rough and/or icy roads.
  • Able to work outdoors in variable weather, including rain, sleet, snow, direct sunlight,
  • high winds, and temperatures ranging from -60°F degrees to +100°F degrees Fahrenheit.
