Traveling to Yellowstone
Yellowstone is very remote, so it takes some time to travel to the park. There are no big cities nearby.

Please travel to Bozeman, Montana by bus or airplane.
Unless you're a strong swimmer, you will be flying into the U.S. The fastest and easiest way to get to Bozeman, Montana, is to fly all the way, but Bozeman has a small airport and flights can be expensive. Most students choose to fly to a larger city and take the Greyhound Bus to Bozeman. Be aware that bus rides to Bozeman from surrounding states are long.

We recommend that you fly as close to Bozeman as you can afford. Airline fares vary greatly, so please check those online. A chart of possible travel scenarios is below:

Please note! Taxi fare from Bozeman Airport to the town of Bozeman, Montana has increased to approximately $32.00.

If you fly into Salt Lake City and wish to take the bus to Bozeman, you must contact www.rimrocktrailways.com to arrange a bus ticket. The bus from Salt Lake city to Bozeman is called the Salt Lake City Express. Rimrock Trailways picks up at the Salt Lake City Greyhound bus station at 8:15 a.m. each day and arrives in Bozeman at 8:40 p.m. Bus tickets to Bozeman on Trailways may also be purchased from the ticket desk of the Salt Lake City Greyhound bus station.

We provide transportation from the Greyhound bus station in Bozeman, Montana to Yellowstone National Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:15 a.m. You are responsible for your accommodations in Bozeman, so most students try to arrive in Bozeman on Monday or Wednesday.

Accomodations in Bozeman
There are several affordable motels within easy walking distance of the Greyhound bus station in Bozeman, where we will pick you up. There is also a hostel 1.2 miles (2 km) from the station. Accommodations in Bozeman are at your own expense, and you need to make reservations in advance.

Weather
Weather is unpredictable in Yellowstone. Night temperatures can be as low as 20°F (-7C) even during summer. Day temperatures can be as warm as 80°F (27°C). It can snow during any month of the year in Yellowstone.

What to Pack
Bring comfortable black shoes for work, along with your clothing bring a warm jacket, a sweatshirt or fleece, and a towel. We provide work clothes, bed linens and a pillow.

This photograph shows a sample of shoes that are appropriate for work. If you cannot bring black, no-skid shoes similiar to the pair shown, you may order a pair at a discounted price from your department when you arrive. Payment for shoes purchased at work will be deducted from your paycheck.

Our Food Menus
Meals in Yellowstone are very American with hamburgers, pizza, chicken, tacos, etc. A vegetarian dish is served at every meal. For breakfast, you will find traditional American eggs, bacon and pancakes along with a breakfast bar geared for international students. This breakfast includes items such as yogurt, tomatoes and cucumbers, meats, cheeses and fruits. A variety of breads are available at each meal. During lunch and dinner, you will find two varieties of soups and a full salad bar.

Accessible Amenities
Many of the goods and services you may require are within walking distance of your housing. These include a general store, post office, bank (ATM or company cashier), exercise equipment, and laundry. Use of the exercise equipment and laundry are free with your housing.

Because Yellowstone is a remote national park, some goods and services require transportation. These include shopping malls, movie theatres, and public libraries. Medical clinics (located at Old Faithful, Lake Village and Mammoth Hot Springs) are within walking distance of most employee housing facilities and require transportation from others.

1. Where is Yellowstone? In the northern Rocky Mountains, mostly in the northwest corner of the state of Wyoming.

2. What jobs are you offering? We operate all of the hotels and restaurants in Yellowstone Park, so we are hiring for jobs working in those facilities. Most international students are offered a job on the "Hospitality Crew".

3. What does Hospitality Crew do? You may be assigned to work as Kitchen Crew-which can be washing dishes, serving in the employee cafeteria, preparing food, etcetera. Or, you may be assigned to work in the hotel as a Room Attendant - this is cleaning hotel rooms.

4. When will I know what my job is? If hired as Hospitality Crew, you don't know your exact job until you arrive in Yellowstone. Your job assignment depends on our business needs. You can request a particular job placement when you arrive, and we will try to accommodate your request.

5. How much does it cost to get to Yellowstone? It depends on how much of your trip is by airplane and how much by bus. Traveling by bus is less expensive, but takes much longer. Please check airfare online and refer to the travel chart on this site.

6. What is the pay? Most positions start at $7.25 per hour.

7. How many hours can I work? Usually, 8 hours a day for 5 days. Two days off in a row is the typical schedule. Sometimes hours are more or less than this.

8. Can I get overtime? Hours are based on business levels and employee numbers, and are not guaranteed. It is sometimes difficult to get overtime in June and July. It is often very easy to get overtime in mid-August, September and October.

9. Can I get a second job? It is not impossible, but it is very difficult to get a job with another employer. If we have a need for it, you can work extra hours in your job or another job.

10. What is the closest big city? Bozeman, Montana. One-quarter mile from the bus station.

11. Is the internet available? Yes, free of charge to employees, but limited time and computer availability. Wireless connections are available in several dormitories.

12. Is there a phone in my room? No, but there is a pay phone in the lobby.

13. How much does my housing cost? Charge for your room is $14.00 per week.

14. How much does my food cost? We provide all of your meals. The cost is $58.00 per week. (Not optional.) If you don't get 40 hours of work during the week, the cost of meals and housing is less.

15. What do I need to bring with me? Comfortable black shoes for work and, along with your clothing, bring a warm jacket, sweatshirt or fleece and a towel. We provide linens, pillow, work uniform, etc.

16. Is there a store nearby? Yes, a general store at each village that has everything from clothes to groceries, to fishing equipment.

17. How close is my work place? Distance can range from two to three minutes to 10 minutes walking. You live near to the place where you work. There are several different villages within Yellowstone. Each one has a hotel and restaurant and employee housing. You will live and work in the same village.
