The Retail Gift Shops in Yellowstone National Park rely on computer technology
to make sure employees can offer visitors the best in service. The Retail Systems Assistant is responsible for
maintaining, repairing and updating a network of POS systems throughout the park. This position works with all Xanterra retail employees
to ensure continuity of service, and provide ongoing training and support for all staff members.
This position requires a physical ability to lift and carry heavy computer equipment. The Retail Systems Assistant
will have multiple night stays at locations within the park and will be on 24-hour on-call duty when assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports directly to the Retail Systems Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for assisting in the overall Retail POS computer system including:
A. Working with Corporate office, POS manufacturer support, 3rd party technicians, Yellowstone Computer
Center and GAO regarding computer programming, software, hardware and it's operation.
B. Hardware/software installation, updates, general maintenance, troubleshooting and repair. Tracking down
serial numbers and software licenses. Filing as needed.
C. Developing manuals and providing ongoing training and support of the Retail support staff,
store employees and store managers on POS procedures and reports emphasizing utilization of data to
promote efficiency and productivity.
Responsible for providing assistance with the Retail and Purchasing information
technology including:
A. Operation of NT server, Network Administrator duties, hub, router and other network components.
B. System file security and virus protection.
C. File backup and restoration.
D. Hardware/software installation, updates, general maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
E. Logging component repairs.
F. Tracking serial numbers and software licenses.
G. Network printers and computer assistance.
H. Providing support to the Computer Center and other departments as needed.
Responsible for providing assistance with the Retail/Purchasing office computers including:
A. Ongoing training and support of the Retail and Purchasing support staff and store management
on computer programs.
B. Hardware/software installation, updates, general maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
C. Maintenance of relational databases.
D. Tracking serial numbers and software licenses.
E. Provide assistance to the Computer Center and other departments as needed.
Responsible for other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Ability to provide training and support in a friendly and professional manner.
Knowledge of POS computer systems preferred.
Prefer knowledge of multiple location retail/wholesale gift shop location operations.
An understanding of Windows 3.11, 95, 98, XP and NT Server operating systems.
Familiarity with network systems preferred.
Prefer knowledge of relational database development.
Prefer experience with software and hardware maintenance, diagnosis and repair.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office 2000 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Exchange Server and Access database programs.
General office skills including typing, filing, calculator, computer use and proper
phone manners.
Ability to take direction and work cooperatively with all deparments
within Xanterra.
Knowledge of Xanterra practices and Company structure preferred.
Physical and special requirements include:
Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Must posess a valid drivers license
24-hour on-call duty when assigned
Overtime when required or assigned
Multiple night stays at locations within the park
When necessary, may need to drive personal
insured vehicle,
to be reimbursed at a per-mile rate.

Working with required chemicals
AUTHORITIES:
Advises and oversees the Retail and Purchasing department users regarding computer policies.
Provides leadership and direction regarding POS and office computer related functions
and procedures to Gift Shop managers, Gift Shop staff and Retail and Purchasing support staff as needed.
