About the Job...

Security Personnel patrol buildings and grounds to observe and identify potential security and safety risks or undesirable conditions such as fires, theft and vandalism.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Security guards report directly to the security lead and location manager(s).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patrol assigned buildings and grounds to observe and identify potential safety/security risks.
  • Respond to all intrusion and fire alarms and assist in implementing Emergency Response Organization (ERO) procedures within assigned location.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide care within scope of training.
  • Observe, report, and document any violations of policies, rules, regulations, and laws governing the location.
  • Perform public safety and protective functions in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Project a positive, customer service oriented demeanor when interacting with employees/visitors.
  • Perform pre-opening and monthly safety inspections of all buildings.
  • Perform monthly fire extinguisher inspections.
  • Perform various duties related to ensuring a safe environment for guests and employees (e.g. shoveling snowy walkways, spreading sand on walkways).
  • Teach MAST (mid-season arrival safety training) to employees arriving mid-season.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures as well as standards of conduct, ethics, attendance, punctuality and appearance.
  • Any other duties as assigned by location manager, safety and security support manager or their designee.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND CRITERIA:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Must pass a DOT physical and obtain a medical examiner’s certificate prior to the agreed upon employment start date.
  • Have basic computer skills to include familiarity with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Have or be able to obtain CPR, first aid, and AED certification through the American Heart Association. (Training available through Xanterra Parks & Resorts)
  • Must not have been convicted, or pled guilty or no contest to: a felony in any jurisdiction; a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, acts of dishonesty or acts against government authority, including the use and/or possession of a controlled substance within seven years; any crime in any jurisdiction involving sale, delivery, or manufacture of a controlled substance.
  • Successfully pass a background check as well as a pre-employment drug test.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate maturity, a professional demeanor, good judgment, diplomacy, objectivity, and sound conflict/crisis intervention and problem-solving skills for managing employee or guest complaints.
  • Be able to effectively perform duties in highly stressful or crisis situations and work under pressure without the loss of composure.
  • Requires the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a diverse population of employees and guests.
  • Be able to quickly learn the layout of the assigned location, established policies and procedures, and location specific duties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts: day, evening, and overnight. Most security shifts start after 8 p.m.
  • Must be able to work continuously up to twelve hours.
  • Must be able to work a rotating schedule.
  • Requires frequent standing and walking up to twelve hours.
  • Requires occasional climbing, sitting, stooping, bending, and/or kneeling. Could total up to two hours per shift.
  • Must be able to respond in a safe and prompt manner to fire alarms, typically responding and investigating within three minutes. This may require jogging long distances as well as climbing multiple flights of stairs while carrying a 10-20 pound fire extinguisher.
  • Must be able to carry a backpack, weighing no more than 20 pounds, for the entire length of the shift, up to 12 hours.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds infrequently (e.g. assist emergency medical personnel with loading/unloading patients into and out of ambulances).
