Sprinkler Systems Technician

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports directly to the Fire Systems Tech Foreman.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for carrying out a service program where all components unique to the property’s systems are inspected and tested at the required times and necessary maintenance is provided. This program includes logging and retention of relevant records as required by NFPA and the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
  • Responsible for repairs and additions to existing fire sprinkler systems as approved by the Authority Having Jurisdiction and in accordance to NFPA standards.
  • Responsible for specifying materials required for service.
  • Responsible for compliance with safety standards as applicable to the job.
  • Responsible for coordinating activities with the Fire Systems Lead Technician.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must be qualified and experienced in the installation, inspection, maintenance, and testing of fire sprinkler systems.
  • Must have a good knowledge of NFPA codes applicable to the inspection, testing, maintenance, and performance standards of fire sprinkler systems.
  • Must be familiar with the use of materials and equipment common to the trade.
  • Must understand and be able to complete basic hydraulic calculations.
  • Must have the ability to identify deficiencies based on testing, and recommend corrective action.
  • National Institute of Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems levels II or I certified personnel preferred.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Must have basic word processing and electronic spreadsheet skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess the physical stamina to walk distances, work in harsh outdoor environments, and be capable of lifting objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have a good driving record, and pass a DOT physical for operation of vehicles from 10,001 to 16,000 pounds.
  • Standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, for extended periods of time is required.

AUTHORITIES:

  • To inform the Authority Having Jurisdiction and the Fire Systems Tech Foreman of system impairments.
  • To assure, within their scope of work, the performance of equipment to the satisfaction of the company and the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
  • To coordinate their work with the National Park Service Communications Center.
